Yesterday was our 6th anniversary. Since I don't have a scanner, I took a few pictures of my favorite pics from the wedding. We are really exciting people...we spent the day at home hanging out together watching tv and playing with the dogs. Jeff mowed the yard and pulled weeds and I cleaned all the spider webs and dead bugs off the front porch walls (the downside to owning a white house...you can see everything). You can tell we are getting old when a day of yardwork is the best we could come up with to spend our anniversary.Last night we went to Diamond Back's for dinner, one of our favorite places to go eat, and then stopped at Chick-Fil-A for yummy shakes on the way home. We spent the rest of the night hanging out and watching tv. Unfortunately our anniversary falls around the same time as the trading deadline for baseball. All I have to say is thank goodness we have a laptop and wireless internet so Jeff could hang out with the dogs and me and still be able to keep up with his Astros.
I have been wanting this buffet for what seems like forever. Every time we would go to Spice Furniture, I would look to see if the buffet was still there before continuing to shop. The store had a furniture sale going on this month, and I thought for sure this would be my chance to convince Jeff we really, really needed it...but it was one of the few things not on sale.
I was at home on Thursday, when I heard the dogs barking like crazy at someone at the door. When I opened the door I saw a truck with "Spice" written on the side and two men standing there who asked where I wanted my furniture. I told them I had no clue what furniture they were talking about and did they have the right house. As soon as they said it was a big buffet, I knew what Jeff had done. He knows I like surprises and this was definately one of his best!
In honor of our anniversary here are a few things you may or may not know about our relationship...
1. The first time we met, I had just woken up from a nap...something I did frequently in college. I am not the most pleasant person when I first wake up, so I'm sure Jeff thought "who is this crazy person."
2. The second time we met (a few months later) was at my roommate's boyfriend's apartment. A bunch of us were cooking out and Jeff was also there. He talked to my roommate but not me at all. I thought he was a snob.
3. The third time we met (a few months later) was again at my roommate's boyfriend's apartment. Jeff was hanging out over there and we actually had a conversation. I can remember everything from what he was wearing to what we talked about...nothing important, but enough to make me rethink the snob part.
4. At the beginning we spent most of our time hanging out with my rommate Kim and her boyfriend, playing golf at Bogey's, watching movies and cooking at our apartment.
5. I officially asked him out first to my sorority's pledge dance. A week later he asked me to his fraternity's rush dance.
6. Our first alone date was on Valentine's Day to Outback Steakhouse.
7. The first present Jeff ever gave me was at midnight on Valentine's Day. He gave me a penny and said "now you can't say I never gave you anything." The next day he gave me a dozen red roses. I still have the penny and wore it in my shoe when we got married.
8. Jeff asked me to marry him on picnic in his apartment (in August it was way too hot to have the picnic outside). Jeff moved all the furniture out of the family room and had everything set up with flowers and candles. He had gotten Outback for us in honor of our first date. He had the ring in a container, which I thought had the dessert. He had me open it and I guess the look on my face made him think the ring wasn't in there. I guess I was in shock (or maybe I really wanted my dessert). Anyway, I finally realized what was going on and I of course said yes! We later celebrated with our friends Brandy and Josh (who are celebrating their 7th today...happy anniversary).
We had a beautiful wedding...I can't think of one thing I would change. I am so happy I married my best friend. The first 6 years have been awesome and I know the next 60 are going to be even better.
