Sick Days

So, not too long ago I went and said it...I told the boys' doctor at our check up, a few friends, my parents...I told them all how crazy it was that we hadn't been sick at all this year. Not a single sniffle, cough, runny nose, throw up, etc. Nothing! While everyone was complaining about how bad it was this year and couldn't keep themselves well, I was thinking what a great fall we were having. Ethan had a few issues with his breathing but by this time last year we had been sick multiple times and in the hospital twice.

Of course, when you say something like..."Gosh, we haven't been sick at all this year," you know it's gonna hit. And Sunday it definitely did.

We went to the doctor because I was convinced it was the flu, but after negative results for both flu and strep, our doctor determined it was just a nasty fever virus...in my opinion just as bad as the flu.

So...we have spent the last three days camped out on my bed, fighting fevers as high as 103, and living on ibuprofen every six hours.

We have watched way too many movies, Ninja Turtle cartoons, and Disney Junior.

Drank lots of green Gatorade...because that's what super heroes drink.

Had lots of chicken noodle soup and pizza...because according to Ethan, he can only eat soup and flat stuff while he's sick. :)

We have taken lots of naps and been SUPER lazy.

So...next time I will not actually say out loud anything about how we haven't been sick. :)  Of course, the sickness hasn't been fun but I'll take snuggling in bed with these two any day over our normal activities!

Heaven's Gain

Yesterday Jeff's beautiful, itty-bitty, firecracker of a woman, Mammaw went home to be with Jesus. Our loss is Heaven's great gain. I can just imagine the singing, rejoicing, and dancing she is doing right now.

We spent an amazing day on Friday with her at the hospital. She had been mostly unresponsive for a few days before and God gave us the gift of her being completely alert and wake. We were able to talk to her, laugh with her, sing, and FaceTime with Jeff's sister and mom. It was such a great day.

She was a woman who spent her life loving Jesus and her family, and made me feel like a part of that family from the very first day I met her. For 16 years I loved getting to call her my Mammaw too. We will miss her so much, but can't wait to see her again someday.

Dossier To China

After months and months of getting all of our paperwork together, background checks, fingerprinting more times than I thought were possible, doing our home study, etc., we are finally DTC!!! Our dossier is in China and being logged in. Now comes the hard part of waiting to be matched. I'm not a patient person but I'm trying to remind myself everyday that it is all in God's hands and His timing is perfect. There is a little girl halfway around the world who He has already chosen to be a perfect part of our family. So...the Burchfield house is celebrating! We are one step closer to meeting Ellison Kate!!

Life through Instagram {and a few other pics}

So...if you follow me on Instagram, you've seen most of these pics. I've been super lazy recently and have only been taking pictures with my phone...it's time to get the big camera out! Here are just a few recent pics of what we've been up to lately...

Valentine's Day Breakfast...donuts, milk, chocolate, a new puzzle, and bed hair...I'd say a pretty good morning!

Valentine's Heart Sorting and Graphing

School Party

Ethan was back in the hospital last month for breathing issues and has since been officially diagnosed with asthma...AWESOME! {said with great sarcasm}

Enjoying some yummy hospital food for lunch...Ethan is thrilled!

We had some puppy visitors, which he LOVED!

Getting ready for t-ball!

Field Trip to PetSmart

Our first trip to the barber shop to get a much needed haircut for the boys' out of control hair.

Loving life with these little guys!

More House Picures

We are making progress...slow progress, but still progress!

On the front porch our pillars have gone up and they are working on the wood floor.

The brick is going on the back porch...love me some herringbone!

Kitchen...no island yet {the one thing I'm dying to see}.

Refrigerator and cabinet on the right {with no doors yet} for the microwave.

Wainscoting going up on the stairs.

Standing in the pantry looking at the hutch in the butler's pantry...I didn't want a true butler's pantry with a counter but wanted full cabinets instead...LOVE how it turned out!

Going from dining room to kitchen.

Cabinets in family room {will have shelves on each side}. Another set of cabinets are on the other side of the fireplace.

Mud Room cubbies...opening on the right is to the garage and the door on the left is the side porch door.

My desk, which sits directly across from the cubbies.  Doorway is to a huge storage closet which sits under the stairs.

Laundry Room

Other side of laundry room with laundry basket cubbies...the goal is for everyone to grab their basket after I fold and put their own stuff away...we'll see how that goes!

Ellie's bathroom

The boys' bathroom

Master Bedroom Hallway

My sink and vanity area.

Jeff's sink

Shower and tub

Going into our dressing area and closets. I'm standing at Jeff's sink. The dressing area has a bench and dresser and we're putting a huge full length mirror across from the dresser.

Standing looking back into our bathroom.

Dresser {missing a couple of doors}.

Standing at Jeff's closet looking to my closet.

The part I like the best about our house is where we are located...

Our property keeps going all the way to the river behind us. This picture is looking up at our house as we are walking down to the river.

It is so peaceful and beautiful...I see many days ahead of us being spent outside.

So...that's where we are for now. Trim is still going up and hopefully painting is starting upstairs this week...then all the fun stuff begins...counters, lights, bathrooms and flooring. Can't wait to see it all go in!
