Our Crazy Attempt at a Christmas Picture

For your viewing pleasure...proof of the last time we ever try to get a picture with all four dogs (at least until next December). I had my wonderful, awesome, extremely patient friend Cathy come take pictures of us yesterday and it was an experience. I don't know why I thought it was going to be easy. Seriously, all four on leashes at the same time, in the front yard (where they never go) with new sights and smells galore, cars going by, workers across the street...sure, no problem!

The first atempt in front of the tree. Really I was expecting them to just sit and look at the camera.

How can you not just laugh at the whole situation!

Everyone finally sitting, but looking at the workers across the street...and Diego could care less. I decided I didn't like the background so we moved to the front porch.

All tangled up...leashes everywhere and Sawyer climbing on Brinkley and Diego.

Not a single dog where I wanted them, Brinkley licking his nose, Sawyer looking loopey, and Moose yawning. How was I so dumb to think we could get all of them picture perfect at the same time.

I thought this one was hilarious. Jeff and I are all smiley, looking at he camera and every single dog is still looking across the street more interested in the workers. Cathy made noises and called their names and no one was interested.

Out of the many, many pictures we took I actually did get a few I liked and one worthy of the Christmas card. So much drama it's a good thing we only have to do this once a year!

Pure Joy

We took advantage of our beautiful 75 degree weather last week to give the pups a much needed bath. Can you take a guess at the only one who enjoys it? Moose goes nuts (you should see him when the sprinklers are on). Jeff usually lets him play for a few minutes before starting with all the washing. It is fun to see him so happy running around playing in the water. Of course it just makes the bathing harder as he is constantly trying to get the water and doesn't stand still!

Do You See What I See?

Look closely at the picture and you will see what Jeff and I noticed upon arriving home this afternoon. WE HAVE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS!! O.K., so it is a little ridiculous...we aren't even in November yet, but it was cheaper to have them put up early.

I don't do much decorating for any other holiday, but for Christmas I like to go all out. I usually start the day after Thanksgiving. Now that the lights are up I am kind of in the mood and wish it was a month from now...I already have my garland made and waiting in our game room. So fun...I can't wait to see how it all looks. Until then...I'm off to clean to some Christmas music!

Could It Get Any Worse...

...than finding this in your backyard?? I guess the actual snake might have been worse, but I almost would have rather seen it so I could have killed it. Now I know it is still lurking around somewhere near, which is a thought I don't like. I knew the day would come eventually with a dry creek bed behind our house but still, seeing it yesterday kind of freaked me out (it was right next to our back porch!!).

Moose checking it out.

Making sure everything is OK.

Little Baby Saw Saw

Sitting in his new favorite spot...too bad it is somewhere he is not allowed to be. Jeff and I keep saying God made him so cute because He knew he was going to be so bad. How could you get mad at this little one...

Good Eats

I love soup, especially the really yummy, not so good for you, comfort type. During our hot Texas summers I'm never as in the mood for a good bowl of soup, but as soon as fall rolls around and the weather starts to cool I get so excited for homemade soup. There is just something in me that says a cold day equals warm yummy soup eaten in front of the tv with a fire going in the fireplace.

One of our household favorites is potato soup. I have a recipe for a really good spicy sausage and potato soup but have forever searched for a perfect (and easy) regular "restaurant style" version (think Saltgrass). Last year I bought a Slow Cooker Southern Living Cookbook and I am happy to say I found what I think is an awesome potato soup. Since we are almost in October (hard to believe) I am in full force soup mode and bought all the ingredients to make it this weekend. I thought I would share for anyone looking for a really yummy and easy recipe...

Ingredients:
6 large russet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1/2 inch cubes
1 large onion, chopped (about 1 1/2 cups)
3 (14 ounce) cans chicken broth with roasted garlic
1/4 cup butter
1 1/4 teaspoons salt
1 1/4 teaspoons freshly ground pepper
1 cup whipping cream or half-and-half
1 cup (4 ounces) sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded
3 tablespoons chopped fresh chives

* Combine first 6 ingredients in slow cooker
* Cover and cook on high 4 hours or on low 8 hours or until potato is tender
* Mash mixture until potatoes are coarsley chopped and soup is slightly thickened, stir in cream, cheese, and chives. Top with sour cream, bacon, and cheese before serving.

** The original recipe called for 2 1/2 teaspoons of salt. We thought it was too salty, so the next time I made it I cut the salt in half and it was better. I also usually don't do chives since Jeff is not a fan.

** The picture above is not the actual soup, it is from My Recipes. I thought a post with no picture is never as much fun.

Since I'm in a cooking mood right now, I thought I'd also share one of my favorite desserts. This recipe is also from a Southern Living Cookbook (Easy Weeknight Favorites). Really I haven't found a bad recipe from Southern Living. I have several cookbooks and love everything I have tried. This is my "go to" recipe if I have to bring a dessert for something. I don't make it that much for us because Jeff isn't as huge a fan of caramel as me and then I end up eating all of it myself.

Gooey Turtle Bars
2 cups graham cracker crumbs or vanilla wafer crumbs
1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
2 cups (12 ounces) semisweet chocolate morsels
1 cup pecan pieces
1(12 ounce) jar caramel topping

* Combine crumbs and butter in an ungreased 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan; stir and press firmly into bottom of pan. Sprinkle with chocolate morsels and pecans.
* Remove lid from caramel topping; microwave 1 to 1 1/2 minutes or until hot, stirring after 30 seconds. Drizzle over pecans. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes or until morsels melt; let cool in pan on wire rack. Chill at least 30 minutes; cut into bars.

These are two of my favs...not really that good for you, but so, so yummy. Hope y'all enjoy if you try them. Happy Eating...

Thanks Fabulous K!!

Kelly has done her magic again! I loved my last makeover and now love this one even more. Click on the link on my sidebar to go see all of her other fabulous work. She is the best at making us bloggers have cute looking blogs!

I'm off to stare at my blog for the rest of the morning before heading to Dallas...can't wait for some Chuy's!!

IKE

Good ole' Ike has come and gone. We had rain and lots of wind, but today it couldn't be any more beautiful. The sky is clear, the sun is out...the weather is perfect. Ike also brought Jeff's parents to town. By Saturday morning they had no power, so they packed up their fridge and freezer and headed to Waco. Jeff's mom is still hanging with us, but his dad is back in Houston taking care of their horses and checking on the rest of the family who are all sticking it out with no power. When we lived in Houston, Jeff and I were 20 minutes south of downtown. I am so glad we are now in Waco. In the three years we lived there I don't think I ever experienced a hurricane. It's crazy seeing everything after Ike. The freeway that got us into downtown was flooded, Brennan's (awesome restaurant) burned down, Jeff's cousin had a pine tree fall down in their backyard (luckily away from the house). We have so many friends and family in Houston and are so thankful that everyone is ok...minus the power of course.

The dogs were a little more than excited to have visitors. Are they spoiled or what? It all started with my mom when my parents were here in July. Sawyer was a little bit smaller and my mom would hold him in her lap on the couch...he now thinks this is the norm. Of course it also doesn't help that Jeff's dad encourages the behavior. What a life they live...

Bring on the Fall

I am so loving today's cooler, windy weather. The 80's aren't exactly cold (and we are still a few months away from weather I prefer) but it makes me excited for the fall and everything that comes with it...football, chili and yummy soups, pumpkins, apple pie, Thanksgiving...I could go on and on!

Even the dogs got in on the fun...

Diego...just relaxing and enjoying the wind in his fur. He is such a cold weather dog.

Sawyer...waiting for Moose to pounce.

Baylor 13 - Wake Forest 41

We went to Baylor's first home football game last night against Wake Forest. Here are a few pics...

I love seeing the Baylor Line run out on the field for the first game because there are so many people...it looks like a sea of gold.

Not sure about the gold yell leader uniforms.

The traditional first game picture...I'm going to try to take one at each home game this year. We'll see how long that lasts.

Our friends Sean and Tyann

Besties

It appears in the pictures as if Moose is completely annoyed with Sawyer, but it is quite the opposite. This is how they spend most of the day...rolling around, jumping all over each other, biting, chewing, chasing...pure entertainment for themselves and for us.

The Texas Sky

It's hard to convince me that there might be a better sunset than a San Diego one... It just doesn't get better than the sun going down over the ocean, but every once in awhile God paints the Texas sky so beautiful that it makes me think otherwise. This picture was taken from our front porch last week. It was getting dark and I turned the flash off to capture the full beauty of it all.

Long Time No Post

Two months, where has the time gone? It has been a pretty uneventful summer. Not a lot going on has meant not much to blog about. I have been in the mood to read blogs just not write on mine.

Besides getting used to a fourth dog in the house here are a few things we have been up to...

My parents came to visit for a week at the end of July. It is always fun to have them here since we don't get to see them that often. We ate out every meal so my parents could get their fill of yummy Texas food, went shopping, made a trip to Salado and the outlet mall in Round Rock, and drove around Waco looking at all of the houses for sale (it wouldn't be a trip to Waco without the three of us trying to convince my dad to move here).

My nephew turned one on August 2nd and we went to Dallas for his birthday party. It seems like yesterday we were driving to Dallas to see him for the first time and now he is already one...he's growing up so fast. I took a few pictures from my sister-in-law's blog of Carson with his baseball cake. He wasn't too sure about all of the icing on his hands.

We went to see The Dark Night a few weeks ago and I loved it. It is rare that we go to the movies, but I wanted to see this one in the theater. We have Netflix and our movie room, so I would much rather stay at home in my comfy clothes to watch a movie. That, and the teacher in me is always afraid that I'm going to get lice from resting my head on the back of the chair. I'm sure I'm the only one with this phobia.

We have been addicted to the Olympics...how can anyone not be? I love it all...the swimming, gymnastics, diving, track events. Come next week I think I'll be going through withdrawl.

We went to Houston last weekend to see Jeff's parents. We hadn't been all summer and went to see his dad's new house that he bought in town.

And it wouldn't be a post without a few pictures of the pups. Here is the gang on the way to Houston, before Sawyer's car sickness began. He never seemed upset or looked sick, but threw up once on the way to Houston and twice on the way back. We had to pull over at a gas sation in College Station for me to clean everything. I think the dog comforter we use for traveling has seen it's last day.

Poor Moose...could he be any more pathetic?

SAWYER

Just a few pics of our new puppy...

One of his favorite places to rest.

Moose's new best friend. I thought Sawyer would be afraid of him, but he loves him and follows him everywhere.
