Introducing...

Moose Burchfield

I can't believe we have actually adopted another dog. We have officially lost our minds...Jeff's dad thinks we're crazy, which I really don't mind if crazy means we get to love such a sweet puppy.

How it all got started...

A couple of weeks ago our friend Yasser came to visit from Houston. He had just bought a house and was thinking about getting a dog. We decided to take him out to Fuzzy Friends Rescue to show him around and look at the dogs. When we went out to where the big dogs were kept, they went crazy. We walked down the aisle looking at all the dogs, who were jumping around and barking...all excited to have visitors. When we got to the end there was a 2 1/2 year old chocolate lab named "Bubba" standing at the door to his cage. He wasn't jumping or barking, just standing there staring at us wagging his tail. He was so sweet standing there letting me scratch his head. When I stopped he put his paw through the opening next to his door to get me to keep petting him...I fell in love immediately. Jeff and I had always talked about getting a third dog. We wanted one who was older and needed a home. Bubba had been there since last October and seemed like the perfect fit. We decided that on the following Saturday we would bring Brinkley and Diego out to Fuzzy Friends to meet Bubba and see how they got along.

The next day I got a call from a girl, who we have gotten to know, that works at Fuzzy Friends. We had seen her the day before and she knew we were considering a third dog. She had taken home a choclate lab puppy from Fuzzy Friends named "Biggles." One of her dogs was upset and not eating because of having a new dog around. She decided to bring him back and asked if we were interested in looking at him. We said yes and that we would look at him when we brought the dogs out to meet Bubba. At that point I thought we were going to end up bringing both dogs home and then have a zoo of four running around!

That Saturday, while we were at Fuzzy Friends, we met both dogs. We met Biggles in a get acquainted room that I'm sure reminded Brinkley and Diego of going to the vet, with the dog smells and barking in the background. They were both a little scared and Diego growled at Biggles. We met Bubba in one of the gated exercise areas. Brinkley seemed to care less. He was more interested in smelling everything and laying in the sun. Diego was what made the decision for me. I'm not sure if he was scared or if Bubba got too close, but Diego growled and snapped at him. It freaked me out enough to decide not to get him. Jeff and I took the dogs home and after talking about it we decided to adopt Biggles. We brought him home last Monday and are super excited. He is so good and so sweet. He is 17 1/2 weeks, has huge paws, and will one day be bigger than Brinkley!

From Biggles to Moose...

Jeff and I weren't feeling the love of the name Biggles so we decided to give him a new name. We came up with a list of all the names we liked and out of all of them "Moose" was our favorite...as in chocolate mousse, but spelled like the animal because "Mousse" looked too girly. With the size of his paws he is going to be as big as a moose someday, so we think the name fits him well

All three of the dogs have gotten along great. It has taken a few days of adjustment, but everything seems to be good. I had forgotten what it was like to have a puppy in the house...all of the boundless, crazy energy one minute and then dropping off to sleep the next. We are having a lot of fun!

The only thing Brinkley is having an issue with is being territorial. Here he is on the bed we bought for Moose with the rope we bought for Moose. If he could talk I could imagine him saying "This was my house first and I get first dibs on the beds, toys, bones, and attention from mom and dad." He is being really good...I think he is just having fun taking and hiding toys from Moose!

Diego is just happy as long as no one takes his chair in our bedroom!

Here are just a few pics of what Mooser Gooser likes to do. I have taken a bunch more that you can see on our website. If you want to read the story about Moose, his mom Katie and her litter, you can go to the Fuzzy Friends website: http://www.fuzzyfriendsrescue.com/. Click on "just in the nick of time."

I'm sure most everyone is bored reading all about our dogs, but they are our life. Hopefully the three of them will never figure out that there are more of them than us!
