Our First Swim Lessons

We just finished our first year of swim lessons a couple of weeks ago.  Since we don't have a pool, and haven't spent a whole lot of time in one the last few summers, I was curious to see how the boys would do. The swim instructors liked for the parents to leave during the lesson...so, every day for 30 minutes in the afternoon I would drop the boys off and leave while they had their fun.

The first few days the boys were pretty timid.  Ethan got in but was still scared and Evan cried while I handed him off and left.  I knew it would probably be like this and my goal this year was to get them used to the water and not so afraid to get in.  The sooner they can not be afraid and swimming the better...I was always afraid of the water when I was little and I don't want them to be like me.

By the end of the week the boys were doing awesome.  Evan didn't cry when I left them and they were having so much fun.  We're still not loving our faces in the water but it's getting much better.  The last day of lessons the parents were allowed to come watch the kiddos show off during the last 15 minutes.  Jeff met me at the instructors house to watch and I got lots of great pictures of them practicing their skills!

Working on their "kickers."

Ethan LOVED the goggles...Evan not so much.

Practicing their "scoopers."

Evan desperately trying to keep his head above water.  He's so like me...I like to swim as long as my ears, eyes, nose, etc. stay above water.

Practicing being on our backs.

This is my favorite picture...the boys ended up liking swim lessons but Ethan was my one who really LOVED it.  The instructors said he was always smiling and happy whatever they were doing and wanted to be the first to do everything.  He keeps asking me if he can go back to swim lessons someday!

Can't wait for a summer with more swimming and future lessons to get the boys on their way to being little swimmers!
