My babies were 16 months yesterday.
In honor of their 16 months here are 16 things going on with them right now...
1. I love their curiosity. Everything is new and exciting...finding the pans in a kitchen drawer, pretending to vacuum, watching me dry my hair and wanting to copy me. Every day is a new adventure and I love looking at the world through their eyes.
2. I am loving how truly different they both are. I love Ethan's excitement for pretty much everything. Most of the time it is all fun. He gets over being mad quickly and just moves on to the next fun thing going on. I love Evan's sweet, shy spirit. It just melts my heart to see him pat Ethan on the back when he is crying or give him his milk to drink...so sweet. Their approach to everything is just so different. Evan thinks about things and seems to have to have a plan while Ethan just goes without a thought to be had. Evan has a certain way of playing...blocks get built a certain way, cars get lined up just so, he is usually the one collecting things and putting them in a box. Ethan goes from one thing to the next...I sort of compare him to a little tornado. What usually gets collected by Evan gets dumped out by Ethan. I truly hope that both of them stay just the way they are. I LOVE that even though they are twins they are 100% each their own individual.
3. Evan loves to be enclosed, kind of in his own little spot. He'll get blankets, towels, whatever he can find and make a little circle to get in and then bring toys or books to play with in his "fort." {Jeff said he liked to do this when he was a kid}
4. Ethan's newest trick is to turn around when you ask him. It is the cutest thing ever...and even more hilarious is when he tries to walk after turning around just once but has a hard time from being dizzy.
5. Our favorite snack recently has been MASHUPS strawberry-banana fruit puree. Cathy had these for the girls one time when we watched them and they looked good and super easy. Ethan and Evan LOVE them and get crazy excited when I pull them out of the fridge. Another favorite {also inspired by Cathy} is Horizon Vanilla Milk. I usually get them a couple to have as a special treat during the week.
6. Evan has figured out the "proper" way to act at a sporting event or when one is on the TV. He claps and claps {even when sitting on the couch at home} and raises his hands in the air {kind of like a "sic 'em bears"}. We are teaching them young to like sports...he is definitely his father's child!
7. This month brought with it the first time wearing shoes with real hard soles. Their other shoes had softer soles and were easier to walk in. It has been quite entertaining to watch them clomp around and figure out how to walk in them. My new favorite thing to do...shop for cute toddler shoes!
8. They have become pretty obsessed with throwing, bouncing, and carrying balls. All day long I hear ba-ba-ba-ba from both of them.
9. We have tried peanut butter a few times and so far so good. The first time they both spit it out on the second bite, but the second time we tried it I made a PB&J sandwich and they gobbled it right up. Next to chocolate, peanut butter is my favorite and I ate a ton of PB&J when I was pregnant. I am hoping they share the same love for peanut butter that I have.
10. We had our first trip to the park {pictures to come soon} a few weeks ago and it was so fun. The playground is on the elementary campus by our house and it is probably a little too much for Ethan and Evan right now...not quite geared toward the little ones, but it was still fun to walk around and play. Ethan and I tried the slide together and both boys loved all of the mulch...so fun to play with. It will be a great source of entertainment when the boys get a little older. I predict many hours of playtime at the park in our future.
11. Ethan has developed a keen sense of hearing for any car that drives by our house. It doesn't matter what he is doing, when he hears a car or truck go by he points to the window and says "ca-ca" {his word for car}. It's amazing how engrossed he can be in something and still stop to point out the car.
12. Body parts that the boys know...eyes, ears, nose, hands, feet, toes, belly/belly button, mouth, head, hair. They are both quite fascinated with their bellies and will lift up their shirts if you ask to see their belly. Ethan is also fascinated with the idea that mama has a belly button too and likes to lift up my shirt to point to it.
13. I love that they will both give you hugs and kisses when you ask them. It is probably my absolute favorite thing about them right now. It is just so sweet...and every once in a blue moon they'll give each other a hug {which is usually more like a pat on the tummy or back}.
14. I have really seen both of them start to follow directions a lot more...close the door, can you bring that to mama, etc. They also have found fun in putting things "away." In the kitchen they will empty a drawer and have stuff everywhere but then open the drawer back up and put everything back inside.
15. They are obsessed with watching videos on our iPhones. Some favorites...Old MacDonald's Farm, For the Birds {Pixar short film}, Elmo, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Hot Diggity Dog, Veggie Tails Silly Songs, and ABC songs that I have found. Their least favorite thing to do is diaper changes and the iPhone has made it so much easier to get them done...a great distraction. I don't know what I did before my phone.
16. Both boys still love their pacis and I am beginning to think it's going to be a really hard habit to break. When it gets close to nap time they will pull their pacis out of their cribs along with their blankets and bear {Evan}/puppy {Ethan}. It's just precious that they go for their "comfort" things when getting sleepy.

I never posted their stats from their 15 month check up, so I'm including those too...
Ethan:
Weight - 25 pounds
Height - 30 inches
Evan:
Weight - 23 pounds, 3 ounces
Height - 30 1/2 inches
And just a few boring things that only I really want to remember...
* Both are wearing size 4 diaper and size 5 shoe
* They could last in 12-18 month clothes for a while longer but since we are moving into warmer weather I have been buying all 18-24 month stuff. I want it to last through the summer, so everything is just a little big right now.
* Ethan is cutting two of his eye teeth so he is on his way to having 14. I am pretty sure Evan is teething too because he has lived with his hand in his mouth for about the last week. He won't be still long enough for me to look. He has 12 but I'm sure more are on the way.
* Still between two naps and one, it just depends on the day.
Happy Sixteen Months to my sweet little ones!
