Ooey...Gooey...Wet...Sticky...Eewy

We had some icky, gooey fun last night scooping the gook out of our "urnge punkee."  After surveying the many many pumpkins at the patch we went with a tall skinny one this year to make our jack-o-lantern.  I'm used to more round squatty pumpkins and got a little messy digging to the bottom to get all of the goo out.

Ethan...my partner in crime.  The child has never met a mess he didn't like.  To say he LOVED getting his hands all sticky and messy scooping everything out is a huge understatement.  He never left my side the entire time.

Evan ran around the kitchen with his spoon and would watch us as he thought about possibly digging it in the pumpkin.  He hates messes, hates being sticky and always wants his hands and face to be clean.  Scooping out a pumpkin is not really his cup of tea.

Saying "eeeew" as he is putting his hand inside.

Finally when Evan decided he wanted to maybe try the whole pumpkin thing he couldn't get his spoon in because Ethan was too fast.  Every time Evan got close Ethan moved right in to scoop out more and Evan would pull his spoon away.  I took Ethan's spoon for a brief second to let Evan have his turn and Ethan was not very happy with me.

I'd say the boys' first pumpkin experience went just as I had thought...Ethan was right in the middle making a mess while Evan stayed to the side taking it all in and remaining clean in the process.  They loved it...I hope it is a tradition they will always enjoy in the years to come.  Up next...we are carving our punkee tonight and roasting the seeds tomorrow once they are all dry...yummy!  LOVE this time of year!
